Upgrades from File Director, MacPak and DiskTools Plus are no longer $7. I have to start charging $10 for these upgrades. I’d say that I’ve given enough time for the owners of these packages to upgrade at that cheap price.
Introduction
The DiskTools Collection is a suite of 5 desk accessories for use with Macintosh™ computers. The desk accessories consist of:
DiskTools
A file management desk accessory. Use DiskTools 3.3.3 to list, rename, delete, copy and find files. As well, DiskTools includes a unique “Marked Files” function that allows you to operate on files contained anywhere on any of your hard disks at once.
Phone Pad
Phone Pad is a 1000 page Notepad replacement. Phone Pad contains search, indexing and dialing functions not found in the standard Apple Notepad desk accessory.
Calendar
Calendar is a simple perpetual Calendar desk accessory with note taking, searching, printing, archiving and dialing capabilities.
RPN and Sci Calculators
Two calculator desk accessories modeled after the Hewlett-Packard RPN style of calculating. Both contain functions that the standard Apple Calculator does not, the Scientific Calculator contains many scientific functions as well.
History
The DiskTools Collection has a long and varied history as commercial software. It began as BatteryPak™, published by Batteries Included in 1985. When Electronic Arts bought Batteries Included, a major revision was completed, and it was published as DiskTools Plus™ from Electronic Arts. The product was then sold to Fifth Generation Systems, Inc. and revised again (to version 3.0) and published as part of both the File Director™ and MacPak™ products. When Symantec bought Fifth Generation Systems, the rights reverted back to Rainmaker Research Inc.
We are publishing this product as shareware as a service to existing owners, and to introduce new users to the product. Some important bugs were fixed over the MacPak version, and new features have been added.

The DiskTools Collection is Shareware. Cost of registration is $20 U.S., the upgrade cost from owners of DiskTools Plus, File Director or MacPak is $10 U.S., provided you include a proof of ownership (photocopy of manual cover or disk) with your payment.

Installation
The DiskTools Collection archive contains the 5 desk accessory files along with documentation for Calendar, Phone Pad and DiskTools in DocViewer format. Simply double-click the archive file to extract the various files. Install the desk accessories you wish to use in your Apple Menu, or anywhere on your hard disk if you are using System 7. If you are using System 6.x, you must extract the desk accessories and install them into your system file (or file accessible with Suitcase™ or MasterJuggler™) with the Font/DA Mover by holding down the Option key and clicking the Open button. This allows you to open the desk accessory files and move them with the Font/DA Mover.
About the Author
Evan Gross is the author of other well-known commercial software, such as Spell Catcher™, a spelling checker, thesaurus, glossary and writing tool now published by Casady & Greene. As well, he has developed other titles for Ex Machina, Inc., including PocketCall, a Newton terminal emulator, and Notify! and Update! for PowerTalk, access modules for alphanumeric paging. Rainmaker has worked on other well-known titles such as Discis Books, MORE II and Maple V from Waterloo Maple Software.
